Methodology & Sources
Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS). Data is fetched live from the BLS public API and cached locally, so the page remains fast even when the BLS service is briefly unavailable.
Wages: Annual mean wage (OEWS datatype 04) and annual median wage (datatype 13) represent gross pay before taxes, on a 2,080-hour full-time basis. Hourly mean wage is datatype 03. Employment is the OEWS employment estimate (datatype 01).
Physician Median: $239,200 — the BLS national median annual wage for Physicians and Surgeons (OEWS, May 2023). The "× Physician Median" column shows each occupation's mean wage as a multiple of this benchmark.
Suppression: BLS suppresses wage estimates for occupations with too few survey respondents in a given area — these appear as "—".
